ExpandLayout can not be used as a normal horizontal layout with added expand behaviour

Description

I would like to have the ExpandLayout? to take only the height that is needed by the contained child components, not whole 100%, and have the expand behaviour as well.

Currently this is not possible, since the ExpandLayout? implementation always tries to accommodate 100% width/height if no other size is specified.

Quite similar to #1729, IMO would be "nice-to-have". Forwarding this to Matti, since I have absolutely no time to work on these sort of issues (though I would like to have).
