Toolkit applications should support J2EE clustering for HA and scalability. In minimum this means that all components and applications implement java.io.Serializable designing session persistence in such way that application state can be replicated runtime.

Note, Toolkit 5 supports open sourced Terracotta product. Take a look into it if you need clustering functionalities.
